Installing new hardware devices

If you are having problems installing hardware in/on/with your system the first thin to check is compatibility.  If a scanner is not compatible with your operating system then there's no point in using it.  Likewise if what you are trying to install isn't compatible with your hardware the same applies.

If the product you are installing is compatible with your hardware and it still isn't installing then you may need to update your drivers.  Each product and company is different so there is too much detail on how to retrieve the latest updates but regardless the manufacturer usually provides current software and may very well fix your installation issue.  As a side note keeping your hardware drivers up to date helps maintain a healthy system.

Not to rain on anyone's hardware installing parade but even if you have the latest drivers and are completely compatible there may be a program/programs installed on your system will conflict with your new hardware such as installations of older hardware that you no longer use or are just replacing.  If possible it is recommended to remove those installations first to better allow the new device to install itself.
